The UK Government has identified the retrofit of buildings as a key lever in their low carbon strategy. Increasingly stringent targets have been set and are being applied to all sectors through funding requirements and legislation.
New methodologies such as PAS 2035 (Domestic) and PAS 2038 (non-Domestic), LETI, Energiesprong and the Passivhaus EnerPHit standard are revolutionising the approach to the refurbishment of buildings. Our fabric first approach allows such a reduction in heat demand that it is possible to achieve net zero carbon buildings, while also improving indoor health for occupants.
Increasing focus on the Whole Life Carbon and the Circular Economy is resulting in a shift towards Retrofit where possible and the avoidance of demolition. This means our existing building stock is increasingly important.
